Having goals is not enough

You hear this all the time. Goals are crucial to success; that’s how you measure your climb rate and if you have already reached your destination.

More than having goals is required.

Unfortunately, it is not the only factor distinguishing successful from unsuccessful people. If at all, it plays any role, both rich and poor people have goals. And typically, they share the same goals. So what’s the determining factor, then?

Several other items can make a difference:

  1. Action - Successful people take action towards their goals. They have a clear plan and take consistent, focused steps toward achieving their goals. Unsuccessful people may have goals but not take the necessary action to achieve them.
  2. Persistence - Successful people have a strong work ethic and persist even facing challenges and setbacks. They keep pushing forward and don’t give up easily. Unsuccessful people may give up too soon or lose motivation when faced with obstacles.
  3. Mindset - Successful people have a growth mindset, which means they see challenges as opportunities for growth and improvement. They embrace failures as learning experiences and see setbacks as temporary. Unsuccessful people may have a fixed mindset, believing their abilities are set and unchanging, and may give up when faced with challenges.
  4. Adaptability - Successful people are adaptable and able to change course when necessary. They are flexible and willing to pivot their strategy when encountering challenges or unexpected events. Unsuccessful people may be less adaptable and stick to a rigid plan even when it’s not working.
  5. Existing Network - Successful people often have a strong network of supportive individuals who offer guidance, mentorship, and resources. They cultivate relationships and seek out opportunities to learn from others. Unsuccessful people may have a weak network or may not actively seek out relationships that can support their growth and success.

Do not get discouraged

But more important do not get fooled. In summary, while having goals might be essential, more is needed. Successful people have a combination of qualities, including taking action, persistence, a growth mindset, adaptability, and a strong network, that sets them apart from unsuccessful people.

You can acquire it all, you just have to be aware of it, and start somewhere.
